Tom has been involved in triathlon for nearly half his life, racing from an early age at local events all the way through to numerous age group wins and making the podium at European level as well as winning races like the well respected UK Ultimate half outright. A member of the TTT family for many years now he has built his own business as personal trainer and is expert in triathlon specific strength and resilience conditioning, which he believes is a huge factor in ‘holding it together' in the lates stages of racing to give athletes a real competitive edge. He’s put this knowledge to great use over the last few years having a number of fantastic success stories, not least of which is helping one of his athletes to a Kona slot on the tough IM Wales course last year.
I live in a small town close to Shrewsbury with great accessibility to the Shropshire and Welsh hills for some scenic cycling! I am currently a level 3 personal trainer, level 4 strength and conditioning coach and an IRONMAN certified coach. In 2017, I started up a personal training business alongside my girlfriend, Milly. It’s been a real eye opener starting up a business, and it’s fair to say we threw ourselves in at the deep end, but we are learning every day and have a passion for helping people achieve their personal goals. Working with a whole variety of clients with differing needs and goals, I understand the mentalities of these individuals and the highs and lows that are all part of the process.
It’s hard to think that at only in my mid twenties I have already been involved in this sport for 12 years, travelling up and down the country racing Tri-Star and junior events to now travelling the world competing in 70.3 events. For the first 5 years it was my hobby, I went to school, took part in cross country and swimming events and when I got home I trained hard and started racing for fun on the weekends. Through secondary school I was competing cross country and athletics at a county level. At the age of 16 things began to get a little more serious, I was able to race against the adults in sprint and Olympic distance events playing my hand against the “big boys”. I continued to train hard and strive to be the best and little by little I closed the gap and got my first podium finish. The challenge then needed to get bigger. For my 18th birthday I received an entry to IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire and this has been the distance that I have really enjoyed. I haven’t looked back since.
For me, the sport of triathlon is about striving for personal fulfilment and each individuals own version of excellence any whatever level that may be. I know that I want to be the best, and your goal may be completely different but, the results still come from understanding and working through the process. I have had many a session where it looks good on paper, but deep down I know that there’s more, and I will keep working until I get the performance I am satisfied with be it a race result, a repeat session, or something in everyday life. I am committed to helping you strive towards your own personal goals and excellence, whether that is finishing your first event to going for glory on a world stage, I understand what it takes.
