Meet Jay
A keen sportsman all his life, Jay found triathlon after more than 20 years in cycling including mountain biking and road racing. He also spent 15 years sailing at international level. Competing at the highest level from a young age, Jay medalled in a number of world championships representing both the Rep. of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Jay’s move to Triathlon has been hugely successful, both personally and for athletes he works with. His attention to detail, love for the sport and huge work ethic gets passed to his athlete’s. Jay joined Total Tri Training as an athlete, has networked well within the team, realising that while performance matters, just loving the sport and the Triathlon community make the whole journey so much more fulfilling
Jay understands that coaching is individually based, and everyone leads a unique life. Tailoring discussions, training and mentoring with an understanding of the individual’s personality and strengths and weaknesses are the key elements that have made his approach successful.
I’ve been involved in endurance sport my entire life and could never achieved anything without dedicated teammates, coaches and peers around me. My approach to training, revolves around the enjoyment factor, and time efficiency in all our busy lives. Having been brought up on the rural southwest coast of Ireland, life was spent outdoors and never too far from the ocean. I live life in the fast lane with a demanding job and an inability to waste a day, earning a good night’s sleep. Outside of coaching and work, my free time is typically spent riding my bike, enjoying the fresh air of the Irish countryside, bike tinkering, or scheming the next crazy adventure. My life goals are simple, work hard, play harder, and have fun along the way.
