Athlete stories

Ben N, 30, London | Challenge Roth PB

Ben asked James for some help to go as quickly as he could over the Challenge Roth course, having completed his first long course event in Leeds the previous year. Ben’s strength lay with his run, so focus was first applied to the bike to build endurance and power, tuning the run as the volumes increased before race day. Ben achieved a huge PB, running a 3:21 marathon a securing a 10:18 PB.

KatieL, 25, London | IM70.3 & GBR AG Sprint Worlds

Katie was overtraining, partly through enjoyment, but mainly due to the belief that volume was the most important factor to fitness; whilst juggling work as a Pilates instructor. Fatigue was high and she wasn’t allowing sufficient time for recovery. I structured a more realistic plan for the distances she was competing at, focusing on building bike power and run strength. Previous injuries meant careful management and breaking the mindset that more meant better. We also focused on using the numbers as a guide, moving from the preconception that a session wasn’t good enough if the numbers didn’t exactly match the schedule. I also developed an outside plan, as the turbo trainer increased chance of injury.

Karen, 50, London & New Zealand | Training for IM70.3

Karen doesn’t like racing! However, she loves training and has been involved in endurance sports for many years, completing distances from Ironman to local sprint races. By creating a plan that provided interest and a desire to use sport to help decompress life’s stresses it kept Karen accountable to herself. Whilst not liking racing she’s signed up for two 70.3’s next year and I’ve developed a plan for her that will allow her to train around family commitments when she returns to New Zealand for a short time to support family.

Emily, 35, London | Training for IM70.3 & Brighton marathon

Emily is new to triathlon, but comes with a cycling background. IM70.3 is on the horizon next year, but first the marathon. I’m creating a plan that will give her the endurance backing to complete her marathon and yet be best placed to be completive with her bike split on her IM70.3.

Athlete Testimonials

Anish, 30, London | Roth DNF to IM Kalmar finisher

Anish asked for help to become a Roth finisher in 2025. Sadly, hindered by a non-wetsuit swim and puncture he was prevented from finishing. A huge disappointment, but we talked through the road to the Roth, what worked, were more focus was needed and reviewed his strengths, linking to possible course and event alternatives. A plan focused on building endurance across all 3 disciplines, giving Anish the best shot at achieving the goal of finishing. 20mins faster in the water, then more confident and stronger on the bike gave him the backing to setup a finish, achieving the goal of becoming an ‘Ironman’.
