Caspian James

ULTRA RUNNING COACH

My Coaching Philosophy

Caspian's coaching philosophy is rooted in sustainable progression, thoughtful planning, and evidence-based practice.

He focuses on helping athletes develop strong aerobic foundations, understand pacing, energy management and fuelling, and building the habits that keep them healthy and confident over the long haul. This is combined with the broader support and experience that's critical to trail and ultra-distance events.

Whether you are looking for guidance with completing your fist ever ultra or trying to achieve an ambitious target Caspian has the experience to help you on your journey.

Caspian James Ultra runner

Meet Caspian

Caspian is a record-setting ultrarunner and coach with experience across a broad range of distances, from shorter fell races to 350km multi-day ultras, and everything in between. He's set course records for the Race Across Scotland 215, Winter Downs 200, 13 Valleys 180K, and the fastest known time for a Double Bob Graham.

Caspian has raced in a variety of environments and formats, including self-supported and fully supported long-distance events, where pacing, strategy, and adaptability play a central role. These experiences have shaped his approach to training, viewing it as a personalised and evolving process rather than a fixed formula. Every athlete is different.
