Meet Fran

What do you want to do when you grow up? It’s a question which we have all been asked and has taken me to the age of 50 to realise. I want to be a triathlete. It fills my life with a purpose and determination that creates positivity and balance. Best of all I get to do this alongside my husband Chris and all the while, inspire our two sons that anything in life is possible if you put the hard yards in consistently. I have also found a community of triathletes/friends from every walk of life and of differing ages who drive my passion by their own commitment and successes. It really is a special feeling seeing your fellow triathletes achieve their goals.

So why trialthlon? I have always been sporty. As a teenager I played County Netball, but my real passion was karate. I competed nationally and had achieved my 2nd Dan black belt by the age of 18. Having completed university with a PGCE in secondary Physical Education, I decided to embark upon a career in the Military. I attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and commissioned into the Royal Artillery. Some 10 years later following some amazing adventures, I left and returned to my roots of teaching, now a mum to Louis and Finlay. As with family life, my focus was on being a mum and little focus was on my sporting passions. However, as the boys got more independent I started getting fit again and had a great run at CrossFit. Then somewhere in 2018 I decided to raise money and complete a local half Ironman. The rest is history as they say, I was hooked, not particularly good, but certainly hooked. I signed up for my first Ironman in 2020 and haven’t stopped since. The pivotal point in my triathlon journey was joining TTT and having accountability. Since joining I have achieved successes that I could not even imagine 7 years ago and it’s not because I am in anyway unique, I am just dedicated, consistent and surrounded by an amazing team at TTT. Being a coach/teacher/mentor is part of my DNA. I truly love to give back and see the successes and journeys of others and if I can manifest my positivity in anyway in life, I want to do this as a coach.
