Katy Armitage ironman UK triathlon run

Katy has been involved in sport all of her life with a background in running athletics and running. She has been a keen age group triathlete for the last 10 years and has raced successfully at all distances including outright wins at many local races and an age group win at Ironan UK which qualified her to race at the World Championships in Kona Hawaii. Upon meeting and talking to her, one of the things that really shines through is Katys genuine desire to help others do well in the sport and use it to enhance their lives in the same way that it has for her. She is a well known and popular memmber or the TTT community and also helps out as a coach at her local club Tri Preston.

Meet Katy

Hi, I’m Katy, a triathlon coach based in Preston, Lancashire. Triathlon came into my life by chance! After moving to a new area and not knowing anyone, I joined my local tri club as a way to meet new people and try something new. I learnt to swim in open water during lockdown, bought my first bike second hand and dived straight into weekly club sessions. I ended up meeting some amazing people whilst learning the skills of swim, bike and run before shortly going on to complete my first sprint triathlon. Never the one to back down from a challenge, about 6 months into my new hobby a member of the club told me that a group of them were entering Ironman UK and asked if I wanted to give it a go – of course the answer was yes...

Since then, triathlon has continued to shape my life, and I have gone on to embrace everything this sport has to offer. If someone had told me then that four years later I’d be running down the red carpet at the Ironman World Championships in Kona I would have laughed, but I firmly believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and have the right people in your corner. Triathlon has given me so much, from meeting friends for life and building newfound confidence, to learning the ability to truly commit to a goal through both the highs and the lows. Now as a coach, I love to help my athletes develop these skills and learn more about themselves throughout their triathlon journey.

My Coaching Ethos

I enjoy nothing more than helping people to achieve things they initially didn’t think were possible, whether that be their first 5k, first time trial or first ironman event. Whatever the goal, I am passionate about equipping athletes with the knowledge, tools and self-belief they need to make it happen.

Within my local club in Preston, I have supported athletes of all abilities; from overall Age Group race winners, to those learning how to front crawl for the first time. For me a successful coach and athlete relationship is so much more than just a training plan, it’s about getting to know my athletes as individuals, understanding what makes them tick, what their motivations are and getting to know their life outside of triathlon. This individualised approach to coaching ensures that we can work together to get the most out of the time you have available, fulfil your potential and most importantly keep your enjoyment and love of the sport throughout the process!
